Charm care
How to attach charms to a bracelet.
Use a gentle twist, a jump ring, and small pliers to place each charm securely without weakening the ring.
See the stepsBefore you start
A gentle twist keeps the ring strong.
Open the jump ring by twisting the two sides away from each other. Avoid pulling the ends straight apart, which can make the ring harder to close securely. For gold jump rings, Rembrandt recommends soldering the ring closed after attachment to help prevent it from pulling apart.
Small pliers
Use a set of small needle nose pliers or chain nose pliers.
Jump ring
Start with a charm that already has a jump ring attached.
Bracelet
Choose the bracelet link or bangle wire where the charm should sit.
Three steps
Open, attach, and close with care.
The process is simple, but the movement matters. Twist the ring open, place the charm, then twist the ends back together until the ring is closed.
Step 1
Open the ring.
Grip closely to each side of the split in the ring. Gently twist each side away from the other so the circle opens sideways instead of pulling apart.
Step 2
Attach the charm.
Slip the open ring through the bracelet link or around the bangle wire. Keep the charm facing the direction you want it to sit when worn.
Step 3
Close and secure.
Use both pairs of pliers to twist the two ends back together until the ring is closed. Avoid repeatedly twisting back and forth, which can weaken or break the ring.
Security note: Gold jump rings should be soldered closed after attachment. A local jeweler can help if the bracelet needs a more permanent close.
Collection bridge
Build a bracelet one story at a time.
Once the charm is secure, continue the story with bracelets and charms made to collect, gift, and wear every day.
